I love these oil pastels, they are not "top of the line" (ie professional line) but you can't beat the color array for the price. I'm an artist as a hobby only and I've had a lot of fun with them, definately worth the purchase. I love the texture of oil pastels.

This oil pastel set is great. You get 50 pastels in the set. The description said set of 12 (boxes) which is incorrect (and seems too good to be true anyway for $6.99). I only got 1 set but for the price is still a great value. My almost 6 years old enjoyed this media very much and doesn't want to go back to her crayons. It is softer.. the colors are more vibrant and much more fun to use. It is little messy (easily smudged) but she will learn not to touch her drawings sooner or later.
I am ordering more..

No Chem Smell/Great Value July 19, 2010

These oil pastels are excellent. Since I didnt buy these to sniff, I noticed NO chemical smell. And keep in mind, I live in Arizona and these were rather warm when I got them from UPS. So, no bad smell but some very excellent oil pastels. These will serve me well and I couldn't say no for the price. A set like this would easily cost me double what it cost on Amazon had I purchased these locally. They blend very easily and are easy to work with. One thing I recommend....after completing work with these or other pastels, lightly spray your finished piece with fixative (or the old reliable standby, aerosol hairspray such as "Aqua Net") to prevent smudging.

Lots of pastels for the price. As you can see from the photo, there are two white pastels in the set.
People who are sensitive to odors should be warned that this set gives off a strong chemical smell, unlike all the other oil pastels I have had.
